This National Disaster Resilience Month and Bacnotan District Hospital (BDH), led by Dr. Zenserly D. Pagaduan, launched its Agri-Tourism strategic project, through the provision of First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS) Training to residents of the Central Agri-Tourism Circuit held at Brgy. Quirino, Bacnotan, La Union on July 30 – 31, 2018.

In collaboration with the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), trained BDH personnel conducted lectures and demonstrated basic life-saving activities to local residents in target Agri-Tourism areas like the surfing coasts of Brgy. Quirino. A total of 17 local residents and 10 members of Bacnotan Surf Club led by Mr. Jay-R T. Bautista were trained.

Principles of emergency care and life-saving activities in cases of drowning, injuries, jellyfish sting and allergies, choking and food poisoning, handwashing, and dogbite were taught. Return demonstrations on rescue breathing and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) of infant, child and adult were specifically performed. Other BDH advocacy projects were also introduced to the residents which are cigarette-smoking cessation and HIV/AIDS prevention.

“In our sincere effort to support La Union’s vision to be the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025, we are also committed to ensure safety to entice more tourists to visit our province,” said Dr. Pagaduan, Over-all Chairman of the project emphasizing the alignment of the project to the vision of Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III for La Union.

The objectives of this strategic project of BDH are to equip the locals with basic knowledge, skills and attitude to perform with confidence the basic life support techniques to save lives; to reduce time-related causes of aggravating issues from receipt of injury to initiation of medical care and to reduce complications brought about by the lack of skills of the rescuers immediately handling such emergencies.

Central Agri-tourism Circuit includes the municipalities of San Juan, San Fernando, Bacnotan and San Gabriel.
