Bilang paghahanda sa nalalapit na muling pagbubukas ng Probinsya ng La Union sa Turismo, nagpulong ang Planning, Advisory and Research Committee at ang Health Emergency Response, Monitoring and Evaluation, and Strategic Communications ng Provincial Core Team Against CoViD-19 noong Mayo 18, 2021 sa Diego Silang Hall, Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union upang talakayin ang mga alituntuning ipapatupad sa muling pagtanggap ng mga turista sa probinsya. Ang tourism guidelines ay nakapaloob sa Executive Order No. 27 na pinirmahan ni Gov. Pacoy kahapon, Mayo 20, 2021.

Ang hakbang na ito ay tungo sa muling pagbangon ng ekonomiya ng La Union mula sa mga epekto ng pandemya. Bagamat magbubukas na ang probinsya sa turismo, patuloy parin ang pagpapaalala ng Provincial Government of La Union sa pagsunod sa minimum health standards.

PGLU BRIDGES EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN NEW NORMAL

As the economy gradually opens, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) through the Provincial Public Employment Service Office (PESO) – La Union, in partnership with the different private business establishments, slowly spreads employment opportunities for the jobseekers in the province.
On May 17, 2021, PESO-La Union supervised the conduct of local recruitment activity of a manpower and property management business at 2nd Floor, La Union Provincial Administrative Commercial (LUPAC), Quezon Ave., City of San Fernando, La Union.
Employment opportunities offered during the job interview were picker/packer, warehouse man, maintenance technician, refiller, information clerk, package counter clerk, housekeeping and bagger.
Company Representative Mr. Ermar A. Mallari interviewed, screened and assessed 10 job applicants from the pool of 35 jobseekers referred by PESO-La Union for job interview. Eight hopeful jobseekers who underwent final interview in the afternoon were hired on-the-spot.
The PGLU continues to conduct and supervise public employment programs as an effective tool on CoViD-19 crisis response to alleviate the impact of the pandemic to many businesses, workers and their families.

La Union LGUs Upgrade Frontline Officers’ Investments Facilitation Skills

The Provincial Government of La Union, through the Local Economic Enterprise and Investment Promotions Unit, took part in the Board of Investments – Linangin ang Obligasyon at Kakayahan sa Aktibong Lokal na Pamumuhunan Awareness Seminar for Local Governments Units (BOI-LOKAL) held at Hotel Ariana, Bauang, La Union on May 17, 2021.
The seminar aimed to capacitate the Investments facilitation skills of the local government officials, Local Economic and Investment Promotion Officers, Business Permits and Licensing Officers, Treasurers, Building Officers, Municipal Assessors, and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) frontline officers.
Discussed in the seminar were means to bridge the gap between investors and the local government units (LGUs) helping them align their local business processes to national government issuances and initiatives on investments promotion.
Gov. Francisco Emmanuel β€œPacoy” R. Ortega III reiterated in his video message, β€œConsidering that the frontline officers and personnel in our component LGUs are the face of our public service and the first-hand experience of our potential investors, it is imperative to capacitate them… Through collaborative activities such as the BOI-LOKAL, we are anticipating more business ventures in our province to thrive.”
DTI Assistant Regional Director Ms. Daria Mingaracal emphasized that now is the time for the region to take advantage and improve its investment climate that will generate jobs, improve the economy and develop the rural areas.
Also part of the discussion was the Corporate Recovery and Tax Incentives for Enterprises (CREATE) Law as support in further increasing the competitiveness of the Philippines. LGUs in La Union will be integrating the CREATE Act in updating and crafting their Local Investment and Incentives Code.
The session shall help foster informed LGUs of the different policies and initiatives of the national government which will serve as guide in crafting plans and implementing programs to attract more investors and promote a business-friendly environment in the Province.
