The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) recently celebrated Arbor Day with a remarkable display of La Union PROBINSYAnihan and strong environmental commitment through a tree planting activity on June 26, 2023 at Barangay Lon-oy, San Gabriel, La Union.
The event was graced by Gov. Raphaelle Veronica "Rafy" Ortega-David, who spearheaded the activity as a testament to the province's commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development. Joining the governor were 200 kaprobinsiaan-volunteers from various entities. PGLU Offices, Mayor Lany B. Carbonel and Local Government Unit of San Gabriel, Barangay Lon-Oy Local Government Unit, Regional-line National Government Agencies, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, and Religious Sectors, took part in the event.
This collective effort showcased their united commitment to fostering a greener La Union. Together, they planted 1000 fruit-bearing seedlings, signifying a significant stride towards the province's vision of becoming the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025.
Mayor Carbonel conveyed her heartfelt appreciation and excitement for the occasion. She underscored the importance of the day in renewing San Gabriel's dedication to environmental preservation and enhancing the aesthetic appeal of their barangays. She proudly emphasized the commendable survival rate of trees in Barangay Lon-oy resulting from the unwavering commitment of its kaprobinsiaan residents and barangay council.
On the other hand, Gov. Rafy reflected on the profound commitment of kaprobinsiaan towards environmental protection and sustainability. She highlighted the inherent beauty of trees and their pivotal role in providing essential resources such as food, water, and clean air. Gov. Rafy also emphasized that while Arbor Day holds great importance, it should not be limited to a single day. She urged everyone to make environmental preservation an everyday commitment to create a better province to live in.
As PGLU continues to foster a harmonious relationship between its agriculture, tourism, and environment sector, it sets a remarkable example for other kaprobinsiaan to follow the lead. With initiatives like Arbor Day and La Union PROBINSYAnihan, La Union paves the way for a greener, more prosperous future, where sustainable development and the preservation of natural resources go hand in hand.
