ALBAY WOMEN’S GROUP EXPERIENCED LA UNION

Around 100 women from the City of Tabaco, Albay visited La Union on May 25, 2018 as part of their Benchmarking Activities for Women dubbed as “A Field Study on Empowering Women through Socio-Economic Related Programs and Activities in Various Local Government Units of Luzon.”

The delegation led by Tabaco City Councilor and Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Person Sheina Marie C. Onrubia, was welcomed by provincial officials and employees of the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU).

Councilor Onrubia introduced the members of their delegation composed of the women City Department Heads, GAD Youth Ambassadors, representatives from Kalipunan ng mga Liping Pilipina (KALIPI), Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), solo parents, day care workers, Federation of Rural and Urban Poor, Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNSs), Senior Citizens, Barangay Health Workers, Rural Improvement Club, church representatives, farmers and fisherfolks and 4Ps, among others.

She informed that the purpose of their benchmarking activity is to learn from La Union’s best practices which they can also adopt in their place. She said that they are very much honored as she said, “Dios Mabalos!” to the PGLU for the warm welcome accorded them. She said that she looks forward to a partnership with the PGLU in the future.

Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator Mauro A. Libatique, Jr. gave the welcome message on behalf of Gov. Francisco Emmanuel "Pacoy" R. Ortega III. He thanked the guests for including La Union in their benchmarking activities and recognizing the province’s interventions and opportunities for the women sector. He likewise assured them that they will enjoy their stay in La Union.

To have a glimpse of what La Union has to offer, there was a video presentation on the LUVWI programs, projects and activities and the tourist spots and products of the different municipalities and city of the province.

The guests were given simple tokens as gifts from the Province of La Union and in return, Councilor Onrubia also handed the provincial officials tokens which they brought from Tabaco City and a Certificate of Appreciation for the PGLU.

After the short program, the delegation were toured around the Provincial Capitol by the Provincial Tourism Office staff, after which, they proceeded to La Union where they were billeted for the rest of their stay in La Union.
