In celebration the 169th La Union Foundation Anniversary, around 4,000 visitors attended the Ceremonial Lighting and Opening of the La Union Agri-Tourism Village 2019 on February 22, 2019 at the Capitol Hill, City of San Fernando, La Union. Among the highlights of the event are the parade, pyromusical show, cake mapping, and opening of Agri-Tourism Booths and Bazaar.

With the vision to be the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025, La Union opened the Agri-Tourism Village on February 22, 2019 at the Capitol Hill, City of San Fernando, La Union as a part of the 169th La Union Foundation Anniversary Celebration.

Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III said, “I hope that this Agri-Tourism Village becomes an avenue for our people to have quality time with their loved ones, while getting into closer look the various Agri-Tourism products and attractions we offer not only to our own people, but to our visitors from outside the province,” in his speech delivered by Vice Gov. Aureo Augusto Q. Nisce during the opening program.

The 20 Local Government Units (LGUs) of the province decorated their respective booths that were strategically positioned around the Capitol Hill. The North Circuit composed of Sudipen, Bangar, Balaoan, Luna and Santol was positioned at the southern part of the hill between Guerrero Road and Aguila Road. The Central Circuit composed of Bacnotan, San Juan, San Gabriel, and the City of San Fernando was positioned at the Apiary to the right of the Japanese Cave. Just adjacent to the Central Circuit is the Central Eastern Circuit composed of Bauang, Naguilian, Burgos, and Bagulin found behind the Japanese cave. The South Circuit which is composed of Agoo, Santo Tomas, Aringay, and Caba is found along Aguila Road near Kumon Center. Lastly, The South Eastern Circuit composed of Rosario, Pugo and Tubao is located at Orros Park.

Each booth takes pride on what their respective LGU has to offer highlighting their products and tourist spots. Produces and by-products of the LGUs are sold at a minimum prize in order for more people to try them. 30 food and non-food booths called the Agri-Tourism Bazaar are also open for visitors to enjoy.

This is the first time that the anniversary celebration was brought to the Capitol Hill from the usual Trade Fair in the City Plaza inspired by the success of last year’s Pasko Sa Kapitolio. This was also done to decongest traffic at the main thoroughfare. The theme of this year’s village is rustic life as seen in the wooden booths and decorations, and caged lights depicting the rural life.

The Agri-Tourism Village is open from 5PM to 10PM until March 9, 2019. Entry to the village is totally free with the aim to give unique and unforgettable experience to La Union residents and tourists. It also aims to promote inclusive economic growth across all towns in the province.
