In a concerted effort to promote civic responsibility and ensure compliance with enacted provincial ordinances, Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David and the Provincial Government of La Union, support the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) for recently conducting IDOL KA or the Information Dissemination of Ordinances for Legislator and Kaprobinsiaan on May 31, 2024, at Alcala Barangay Hall, Luna, La Union.

The event aims to bring about a more empowered citizenry who are highly engaged in public policy with the opportunity to contribute and express their support for specific public issues and initiatives.

The Barangay Councils, Barangay Health Workers, and Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams of Barangay Alcala and Barangay Salcedo participated in the event, headed by Punong Barangay Romulo F. Gordon Jr. and Punong Barangay Marivic P. Borromeo, respectively. Also present to assist in the conduct of the program are the other three key units of the SP Secretariat such as the Legislative Research and Policy Unit, Legislative Tracking and Monitoring Unit, and the Board Secretarial and Administrative Unit.

With consideration of the practices and situations of the said barangays, the provincial ordinances selected as subjects for orientation are the Provincial Ordinance No. 230-2020 or the Anti-Road Obstructions Ordinance, Provincial Ordinance No. 264-2020 or the Anti-Noise Disturbance During Modular/Blended Learning and Online Classes Ordinance, Provincial Ordinance No. 265-2020 or the 2020 Animal Facilities and Related Business Ordinance of the Province of La Union, and Provincial Ordinance No. 051-2024 or the Animal Welfare Ordinance.

Comprehensive discussions regarding the ordinances were made by SP representatives, explaining their intricacies for better understanding. Afterward, an open forum was conducted to provide an avenue for the participants to raise queries, share insights, and offer feedback on the ordinances and their implementation. The Legislative Information System Search, also known as LISearch was also introduced to help barangays have a useful reference to the provincial ordinances they will implement in their respective barangays.

PGLU’s IDOL KA marks a step towards a more informed citizenry in La Union, fostering collaboration with the component local government units and enhancing KaPROBINSYAnihan compliance with provincial ordinances.
