The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), through the Provincial Government - Environment and Natural Resources Office (PG-ENRO), celebrated the Month of the Ocean with a coastal clean-up activity dubbed “Scubasurero” at Barangay Quirino, Bacnotan, La Union. It was participated by LAMBAKLAD Inc., Bantay Dagat, PGLU employees, the Local Government Unit of Bacnotan, and officials and residents of the barangay.
The coastal clean-up drive was conducted by eco-volunteers diving into the waters of Barangay Quirino in an attempt to collect trash that ended up in the ocean. About 50 kilograms of waste were retrieved, most of which were plastic wrappers, plastic bags, PET bottles, and plastic cutleries.
Through this, PGLU, led by Governor Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David, hopes to raise awareness regarding the impact of plastic pollution on the marine environment, instill the habit of keeping the environment litter-free, and promote regular clean-up drives to prevent waste materials from polluting the province’s oceans.
In unity and solidarity in protecting the environment, Scubasurero hopes to resound the call for action through the #LaUnionPROBINSYAnihan and #KalikasanNaman campaigns of the PGLU.
