As she celebrated her 27th birthday on March 14, 2024, Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David brought a total of 174 learners from different elementary schools of La Union to the MV Doulos Hope International Floating Bookfair to give them a unique out-of-classroom learning experience and to further kindle their love for reading.
The 174 learner participants of the educational tour, symbolic of the 174 years of La Union, were from Sudipen Central School in Sudipen; Nalvo Norte Elementary School in Luna; Marcos Elementary School in Rosario; Ambangonan Elementary School in Pugo; and Ubagan Elementary School in Santo Tomas who were accompanied by their school heads and teachers.
The Doulos Hope Crew headed by Captain Tom Dyer welcomed the children aboard where they had the opportunity to meet with the MV Doulos Hope Crew who gave entertaining trivia and worship activities with the children. Aside from the Doulos Hope experience, the kids also brought home bookfair souvenirs and books as Gov. Rafy gifted them 200 units of gift certificates each to purchase items.
In return, participating schools expressed their gratitude to Gov. Rafy and the Provincial Government of La Union by rendering a song number, dance presentation, and acrostic as they gave birthday greeting cards to Gov. Rafy. A raffle draw was also done allowing all participants to bring home a La Union PROBINSYAnihan merchandise of either a bag, tumbler, bucket hat, fan, or shirt.
To conclude the birthday treat, the participants enjoyed a kiddie party lunch prepared for them in a fast food chain where they enjoyed the food, gifts, and mascot performances.
In her message, Gov. Rafy narrated her childhood experience in the floating bookfair which she also wishes the children to experience and remember as they grow up. She encouraged the kids to share the blessings they received by being a blessing to others too.
As part of the Ayat Fest 2024, the activity aims to bring joy and hope to learners especially those who are from farther municipalities for them to enjoy the La Union Founding Anniversary activities.
