Acknowledging the invaluable efforts of all volunteers across the nation, the annual celebration of National Volunteers’ Month in December recognizes volunteers and organizations who have rendered selfless service and exemplary acts to their communities. For this reason, the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA) awarded the exceptional volunteers and Local Government Units (LGUs) during the Search for Outstanding Volunteer (SOV) and Bayanihan Media Awards National Awarding Ceremony 2023 Century Park Hotel, Malate, Manila.
The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), received a Citation Award on Volunteerism for its active implementation of various volunteer-engaging programs, continuous engagement of Civil Society Organizations and volunteer individuals in local governance. This award was conferred upon the assessment and evaluation of the existing and developing volunteerism projects under the Kadua Volunteerism program of the PGLU which includes the establishment of the Volunteer Focal Point System, development of the Kadua Portal, and implementation of volunteering schemes and opportunities with the private sector.
La Union has produced the following 2023 SOV Regional Awardees: Mr. John Paul F. Naoe, Individual-Youth Category; Ms. Kristel Gizelle A. Beñas, Individual-Adult Category; and Lupon ng mga Indibidwal na Nangangalaga sa Kalikasan, Inc. (LINK, Inc.), Organization-Non-Profit. These awardees were recognized for their exemplary achievements in empowering their communities through volunteerism for nation-building.
In attendance at the event were several National Government Agencies who committed to integrating volunteerism in the planning and development of the PGLU. The event was also graced with the presence of Dir. Donald James D. Gawe, Executive Director of the PNVSCA, who ingrained within the hearts of the participants and awardees that “Volunteerism not only enriches the lives of others but also that of our own.”
His sentiment was affirmed by Atty. Karlo Alexei B. Nograles, Chairperson of the Civil Service Commission and NVM Honorary Chair who recognized that “Volunteerism is the embodiment of compassion, selflessness and the desire to create meaningful change. It is an expression of innate humanity and a testament to our shared values as a society.”
To further its pursuit of #LaUnionPROBINSYAnihan, the PGLU will dedicate more programs and activities to fostering a culture of volunteerism towards transformative governance grounded on kindness, compassion, and unity to mold a Province worth living in.
