Gov. Rapahelle Veronica "Rafy" Ortega-David has once again proved that women can shine in a traditionally male-dominated field after she was appointed as a Commodore in the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary (PCGA) Executive Squadron on October 10, 2023, at the PCG National Headquarters in Port Area, Manila. This achievement not only breaks gender stereotypes in the country's armed uniformed services, but also highlights the significance of prioritizing marine safety and swift crisis response.

As an active volunteer lifeguard and emergency responder, Gov. Rafy's appointment as a Commodore is a testament to her outstanding dedication and achievements, arising from her extensive training in Water Search and Rescue and Basic Life Support. These skills have equipped her with the knowledge and expertise required to contribute meaningfully to the PCGA's mission.

Upon her appointment, Gov. Rafy expressed her commitment to her new role, "As an Auxiliary Commodore, I vow to do my duties and responsibilities in ensuring the safety and security of our seas. We were more than ready to accept the challenge to carry out the PCG's mission."

Gov. Rafy's appointment not only showcases her journey as a public servant but also serves as a powerful message that gender is no barrier to leadership and excellence.
