La Union ties with DMW, GIZ for Triple Win Project: Empowering Nurses for Global Healthcare Excellence

The Provincial Government of La Union has taken a significant step towards enhancing employment opportunities for licensed nurses through a collaboration with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ). On August 23, 2023, a Free Orientation for Licensed Nurses was organized under the Government-to-Government Triple Win Program (TWP). Held at Hotel Ariana in Paringao, Bauang, La Union, the activity aimed to empower local nurses and provide them with avenues for growth and professional advancement while contributing to the international healthcare sector.
Twenty-four licensed nurses from La Union and 15 Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Managers representing various Local Government Units in the province.
In her opening message, Provincial PESO Manager, Ms. Charito C. Dator highlighted the exceptional qualities of Filipino nurses, stating, “Filipino nurses are the best. Why? Because they are naturally friendly, which explains why Filipino hospitality is a thing. Filipino nurses are caring, friendly, intelligent, dedicated, honest, reliable and most of all flexible. Kaya gustong gusto sa abroad ang mga Filipino nurses.”
The orientation was conducted by Resource Speakers from the DMW-Central Office, Mr. Ken P. Sarmiento, Chief Administrative Officer, discussed the DMW Programs and Government Placement while a representative from the GIZ Philippines, Ms. Mika Laine Simpao, Junior Coordinator, presented the Triple Win Program to the participants. The activity was also attended by DMW-Region I Supervising Labor and Employment Officer, Mr. Ferdinand E. Merrera.
The orientation was full of insights from distinguished Resource Speakers. Mr. Ken P. Sarmiento, Chief Administrative Officer from DMW-Central Office, discussed DMW Programs and Government Placement initiatives. Complementing this, Ms. Mika Laine Simpao, Junior Coordinator from GIZ Philippines, provided a detailed overview of the Triple Win Program. Mr. Ferdinand E. Merrera, Supervising Labor and Employment Officer from DMW-Region I was also present to grace the said activity.
Following the orientation, representatives from DMW-Central Office, GIZ Philippines, Provincial PESO, and LGU PESO Managers paid a courtesy call to Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David to express their heartfelt gratitude to Gov. Rafy for fostering a consistent partnership that aligns with the spirit of #LaUnionProbinsyanihan. This collaboration not only opens avenues for international employment but also serves as a safeguard against illegal recruitment practices.
The TWP is a joint project to recruit nursing professionals in the Philippines for the German health care and nursing sector. The partnership aims to improve the private recruitment tracking of nurses and other health care related professionals entering the German labor market.
