La Union LGUs Join Forces for Environmental Preservation Through ENVImazing Race

Bolstering effort on environmental preservation, 20 component Local Government Units (LGU) of La Union raced-off during an amazing environmental race dubbed as "ENVImazing Race" organized by the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) through the Provincial Government - Environment and Natural Resources Office (PG-ENRO) on June 23, 2023 at the areas of Lower Amburayan River System, particularly, Bangar and Sudipen areas.
The said race was organized in celebration of Philippine Environment Month this June which centered on the theme “No to Waste: Advancing Circular Economy to #BeatPlasticPollution."
In support to PGLU's #KalikasanNaman campaign, the Envimazing Race was designed to promote awareness on various environmental programs and initiatives and to showcase the Lower Amburayan River System's richness and diversity. The game was composed of several stations that challenged the participants to perform tasks related to environmental protection and preservation.
EnP. Annalyn Rosario Valdez, OIC PG-ENRO, introduced the activity by citing Proclamation No. 237, declaring the month of June as the Philippine Environment Month from which this activity was attributed. She further expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming support from the host barangays and LGUs for hosting the event and to the participants for joining the race. She added that joining the race signified their commitment and strong will in protecting and preserving the environment.
Governor Raphaelle Veronica "Rafy" Ortega-David represented by PGLU Executive Assistant Dr. Eleazar Belgica, highlighted in his message the importance of protecting the environment and raising environmental awareness through this activity for a sustainable and resilient future for the next generations to come.
The participants were from the 20 component LGUs of La Union wherein three (3) representatives from each LGU actively joined the race. The team from LGU-San Juan composed of Ms. Riza Joy A. Abat, Mr. Gino Osvi P. Mabalot, and Mr. Exekiel V. Lanuzo won first place and received a cash prize worth Php 6,500.00. Landing on the 2nd place was the team from LGU-Aringay composed of Mr. Jun Mapanao, Mr Sherwin Balangue, and Mr. Artemio Gatchalian and received a cash prize worth Php 4,500.00. The team from the LGU-Luna namely Mr. Roylan Nimer, Mr. Jun Rizal Alcaria, and Mr. Darwin Dela Pena finished the race in third place and received Php 3,500.00 worth of cash prize. Non-winners also received a consolation prize worth Php 1,500.00.
This celebration demonstrates the spirit of #LaUnionPROBINSYAnihan between the LGUs in the province towards a greener and sustainable future through reinforcing effective actions to protect the environment.
