Supporting the agricultural sector of the Province while enhancing food security, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAg), participated in the simultaneous Launching of Kadiwa ng Pangulo (KNP) on July 17, 2023. Held at the Boy Scouts of the Philippines Parking Grounds in Brgy. Sevilla, City of San Fernando, La Union, the event showcased an array of agricultural products while promoting agri-tourism in the province.

The KNP initiative is a key component of Marcos' administration's campaign for food security. Led by the Department of Agriculture and fully supported by the Department of Interior and Local Government, Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Trade and Industry, and the Department of Social Welfare and Development, the KNP aims to eliminate intermediaries in the supply chain, strengthen market linkages, and ensure affordable access to fresh produce.

This was participated by 30 exhibitors — local farmers, farmer groups, and micro, small, and medium enterprises, who displayed fresh fruits and vegetables, well-milled rice, fish, meat, processed products, and handicrafts, all sold at affordable prices.

The event was actively presented by 30 exhibitors, including local farmers, farmer groups, and micro, small, and medium enterprises, who displayed a range of fresh fruits and vegetables, well-milled rice, fish, meat, processed products, and handicrafts. The products were made available to the public at affordable prices, facilitating direct sales between farmers and consumers.

During the event, the PGLU-OPAg reported a remarkable total sale of Php 256,217.48, emphasizing the positive impact of the KNP on the province's agricultural industry.

Ms. Agnes Grace Cargamento, the Officer-in-Charge of OPAg, expressed in her speech the office's commitment to supporting farmers and fisherfolks in terms of production needs, inputs, marketing, and processing of their goods. This assistance will further improve and strengthen the linkages of the agriculture sector and contribute to the overall growth and development of the province.

In her message, Gov. Raphaelle Veronica "Rafy" Ortega-David highlighted the significance of KDP in empowering local farmers and fisherfolks by providing them a platform to showcase their products and earn a decent living while providing access to fresh and affordable food. Gov/ Rafy also underscored that KNP aligns perfectly with the province's vision to be the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025.

With the successful launching of Kadiwa ng Pangulo, La Union takes a significant step towards a more sustainable and prosperous agricultural sector, further solidifying its position as a premier agri-tourism destination in Northern Luzon.
