In pursuit of excellence, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), under the leadership of Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David, vies for this year’s Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) Award of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) as the regional assessment was conducted last June 21, 2023 at the BAC Conference Room, Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union.

The assessment kicked off with an opening program in which the Governor’s Cabinet led by Provincial Administrator Agnes Grace A. Cargamento welcomed the Regional Assessment Team (RAT) composed of Program Manager Calvin Nollie Julius B. Lubrin LGOO VI of DILG Pangasinan, Karessa Labajeros, LGOO II of DILG Pangasinan, and Pastor Rene Tamoria, Civil Society Organization Representative from the National Chaplains of the Philippines.

The SGLG is an institutionalized award, incentive, honor and recognition-based program which aims to boost Local Government Units’ (LGU) commitment to continuously progress and improve their performance along various governance areas.

In accordance to Republic Act 11292, which institutionalized the SGLG, the RAT validated and assessed the documents submitted in the ten governance areas. These areas included Financial Administration and Sustainability, Disaster Preparedness, Social Protection and Sensitivity, Health Compliance and Responsiveness, Sustainable Education, Business-Friendliness and Competitiveness, Safety, Peace and Order, Environmental Management, Tourism, Heritage Development, Culture and Arts, and Youth Development. The RAT also conducted on-site visits to various offices and facilities of the PGLU.

The activity concluded with an exit conference during which the RAT reported the results of their documents review, interviews and ocular visits. The Regional Assessment will determine if the PGLU qualifies as a potential shortlisted LGU for recommendation in the National Assessment. With that, Governor Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David encouraged everyone to learn from the findings of the Regional Assessment Team and be inspired to do better.

The Provincial Government will maintain its commitment to transparency and accountability through #LaUnionPROBINSIYAnihan in order to provide unwavering service for the Kaprobinsiaan to improve their quality of life and achieve sustainable development and good local governance.
