To further support the growth of domestic tourism with the revival of the holiday economics in the country, the Provincial Government of La Union took part in the first-ever North Luzon Travel Fair (1NLTF) on November 18 – 20, 2022 at the SMX Convention Center, Clark Freeport, Angeles, Pampanga.

The event was graced by Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Ma. Esperanza Christina Garcia-Frasco. In her speech. she underscored the contribution of the tourism industry in the economy of the country. She also expressed her optimism for an increase in visitor arrivals as the country eases the entry protocols, especially for foreign tourists.

Also present to express their support in the event were DOT Undersecretaries Shahlimar Hofer Tamano and Verna Buensuceso; former Defense Secretary and BCDA Chairman Delfin Lorenzana; DOT Region 1 Director Joseph Francisco β€œJeff” Ortega and other DOT Regional Directors from Regions, 2, 3, 4B, 6, 8, 12, Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), and Caraga Region.

β€œThat is why all of our Regional Directors from the entire country are here today. To bring back home the good news that North Luzon is ready for the revitalization of tourism in this part of the country,” Tourism Chief Frasco said.

Gathered around 100 exhibitors and 30 sellers, the three-day event featured business-to-business sessions that provided an opportunity for tourism stakeholders to experience innovative ways of developing business connections and update local industry partners with the latest tourism offerings. It also offered discounted packages, air tickets, accommodations, and other tourism-related products. Other activities enjoyed by attendees were artisan demonstrations, interactive games, raffle draws and familiarization tours of the North Luzon regions;

Culminating the event with theme, β€œWeaving the Way to Recovery,” the β€œHibla ng Lahi” Fashion Show was staged which showcased indigenous fabrics from North Luzon as a way to empower local Filipino traditions, culture, and customs to thrive in the modern market and revive handwoven textiles. The show was organized by the regions’ talented local designers. For the Province of La Union, the traditional Abel Iloko fabric of Bangar, La Union was showcased through the creations and special collection of β€œDesigner of the Stars” Anthony Ramirez.

The 1NLTF 2022 is a joint project of the DOT Regional Offices in CAR, Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, and Central Luzon; Alliance of Travel and Tour Agencies of Pampanga; Tourism Promotions Board of the Philippines; and Subic-Clark Alliance for Development. It paved way for the creation of a one-stop-shop venue for industry collaboration, showcasing the domestic tourism destinations, products, services, delicacies, gifts and pasalubong items, as well as cultural presentations from the northern side of the Philippines.

Through the 1NLTF 2022 in this period of recovery, PGLU will continue to improve the enabling mechanism of coming to and going around La Union to attest that the North Luzon is ready for the revitalization of tourism.
