Aiming to establish the Elyukano Center for Ilokano Studies in the province, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of the Province of La Union has approved a resolution that authorizes Gov. Raphaelle Veronica Ortega-David to enter into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU).
SP Member Jennifer C. Mosuela-Fernandez, the main sponsor of Provincial Resolution No. 2022 disclosed that the proposed agreement between the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) and the DMMMSU through its President, Dr. Jaime L. Manuel, Jr., is executed to set forth the duties and obligations of both parties with respect to the establishment of the Elyukano Center for Ilokano Studies at the DMMMSU, San Fernando City, La Union.
She then emphasized the importance of establishing the Elyukano Center for Ilokano Studies as this will house the collections of books, magazines, documentary works, and researches of llokanos to be a living repository of the llokano's rich and vibrant culture and heritage.
As stated in the resolution, the constitution mandates the states to conserve, develop and promote and popularize the nationโs historical and cultural heritage and resources likewise the Iloko Code of the province with Iloko as La Unionโs main language and mother tongue.
Under the MOA, the Provincial Government of La Union shall conduct research and sources out materials of Ilokano Culture to be placed at the center, collaborate with Gunglo ti Mannurat nga Ilokano (GUMIL) to conduct Iloko learning Series as short training course offered upon launching of the Elyukano Center for Ilokano Studies, and create a Technical Working Group to focus on the implementation of the project.
In realization to #LaUnionPROBINSYAnihan, PGLU looks forward for the establishment of the Elyukano Center for Ilokano Studies which is very important to enrich, conserve, and protect the province's Iloko culture in the most effective way.
