Sangguniang Panlalawigan Board Member and Liga ng mga Barangay La Union Chapter President Hon. Geraldine Ortega led a total of 962 barangay officials of the Province of La Union during the Liga ng mga Barangay Congress held on July 4 to 6, 2022 for the Second District and July 7-9, 2022 for the First District of La Union at the Hotel Supreme, Baguio City.

To sustain the strong ties between the barangays and the Provincial Government, the activity was graced by Gov. Rafy Ortega-David who discussed her platform of governance and encouraged the barangay officials to align their programs to the PUSO framework that will serve as the guide of the province to attain its aspirations of a more progressive and stronger province.

โ€œKlarong-klaro po ang kahalagahan ng trabaho ng mga opisyales ng barangay at sana tulad nalang ng pagtrato ko sa mandato ko na sa isang prelibihiyo ay tratuhin niyo ring sagradong pagkakataon ang pag-upo po ninyo sa puwesto para makagawa ng mabuti para sa ating mga kaprobinsyianโ€ฆnaniniwala parin ako sa mensahe na dapat lahat ng ginagawa natin ay naka angkala sa pagmamahal, hihingihin ko po ang pagtutulungan ng bawat isa upang maisakatuparan ang lahat nito at dahil diyan, atin pong isusulong ang La Union PROBINSYAnihan,โ€ said Gov. Rafy in her message.

Inspirational messages were also delivered by DILG La Union Provincial Director Reggie Colisao and Board Member Joy R. Ortega. Likewise, the participants were informed of the topic on โ€œWarrantless Arrest and Search Warrantโ€ ably discussed by Hon Ethelwolda Jaravata, the presiding Judge of Branch 32 of Agoo, La Union.

Several other topics of importance to barangay governance were also included such as the Salient Features of the Katarungang Pambarangay discussed by Atty. Aurora Sanglay; Guidelines in the 2023 Barangay Budgeting by Director Ryan Milanes; Issuances and other related matters of Social Services by PSWDO Ranilo Ipac; and the Criteria for the Seal of Good Local Governance for Barangay by DILG Officer Julie Ann Quilates.

Encouraging unity among La Union Barangays, Liga President Hon. Ortega said, โ€œLet us continue to be united, and as punong barangays, let us be the peacemakers in our barangays. I hope that this congress will bring us closer, learn to resolve our issues and problems through dialogues not through violent solutions, in spite of our diversity, let us pray for wisdom.โ€

The Provincial Liga ng mga Barangay Congress is an annual activity being held as a way to encourage active participation and ensure alignment of 576 barangays in the province to the provincial and national governments.
