To appreciate and learn from the Provincial Government of La Union’s (PGLU) best practices in tourism and culture-focused initiatives, key officers of the Provincial Government of Quirino’s tourism office underwent a cross-learning day tour, alongside visits to select destinations here in the Province of La Union on June 23, 2022.

The 28-man team from the Province of Quirino led by their Chief Tourism Operations Officer Aurea V. Martinez and Supervising Tourism Operations Officer Loida Mores-Acacio visited first the tourist sites in the Municipalities of Agoo, Caba and Bauang. As a shared heritage of both provinces, the delegation appreciated the human-size monument of Pres. Elpidio R. Quirino in Caba town. Former Pres. Quirino, from whom the visiting province was named after, taught as a public school teacher in La Union.

Provincial Administrator Agnes Grace A. Cargamento along with the La UnIon Provincial Tourism Office staff gracefully received the group during their courtesy visit to the La Union Provincial Capitol. A comprehensive briefing about PGLU’s current tourism and culture units’ organizational set-up, notable projects, and the program Dap-Ayan: Center for Culture and the Arts was shared with the visiting team.

Administrative Officer V Julius A. Manabat, and Senior Culture and Arts Officer Jeddahn P. Rosario led the team’s Main Capitol Building tour as they presented the building’s heritage and renovated features.

Ms. Martinez believes that their benchmarking trip in La Union opened Quirino Province’s door to various prospects and opportunities. She added that they gained better understanding on how to fit in with the future plans and programs of their province.

Moving forward, both provinces shall explore plausible partnerships, future resource-sharing and exchange programs towards sustainable tourism development and cultural management.
