Championing excellence in technical-vocational (tech-voc) skills, different institutions in the Province of La Union compete as the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA)-La Union hosted the 13th Provincial Skills Competition today, March 22, 2022 held at the TESDA Regional Training Center, City of San Fernando, La Union.

11 tech-voc graduates and skilled workers showcased their talents and skills in different trade areas of competition for the World Skills Category such as: Automobile Technology, Electrical Technology, Welding, Cooking, Restaurant Service, and Visual Graphic Design.

TESDA Regional Director Vincent Cifra, TESDA La Union Provincial Director Alvin Yturralde, Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator Ms. Michaella Louise Delfinado, Regional Training Center Chief Art Pulido and Engr. Antonio Alvarado Jr. of the Association of Technical Vocational Institutions of La Union graced the opening ceremony.

Dir. Yturralde extended his gratitude to the PGLU under the leadership of Gov. Francisco Emmanuel β€œPacoy” Ortega III for the unwavering support to the event and said, β€œProvincial Skills Competition targets to be an avenue to recognize core excellence and develop highly competent workers.”

Gov. Pacoy enjoined the participants to give their best shot and continue to make La Union proud to be the National Champions until they reach World Skills Competition. β€œToday, you will be given the opportunity to showcase the skills you have mastered through hardwork and perseverance,” he added.

The event aims to promote the development of quality technical and vocational skills as well as work values among the youth and skilled workers fostering cooperation among the government, industries, employers and tech-voc institutions.

Beejay Dacumos was hailed as the champion and Vincent Lomandas garnered 1st runner up for the Automobile Technology category; while Janmar Nisperos wins in the Electrical Technology category. For the Welding category, Carlo Basas was hailed as the champion while Denver Gomez and Crizel Ann Almirol bagged the 1st and 2nd runners up, respectively. For the cooking skills, Edrei Orpilla was hailed as the champion while Sophia Samonte obtained the 1st runner up. Daisery Hipona championed the restaurant service skill as Margie Hipol placed 2nd runner up.

Winners of the various skills competition will represent the province in the Regional competition. The PGLU continues to produce home-grown talents with world class skills that promote youth empowerment and livelihood development and build a strong partnership with the stakeholders towards achieving sustainable and inclusive development.

The activity was a part of the month-long celebration of the 172nd Foundation Anniversary of the Province with the theme, La Union La Unay: Naggapu iti Ayat, Gapu iti Ayat.
