The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) through the Provincial Public Employment Service Office (PESO) granted a 22-day work for 30 Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) beneficiaries as part of the Second Batch of SPES Deployment in the different departments and offices in the PGLU.

Hired SPES Workers together with their parents were given SPES Employment Guidelines Orientation on November 10, 2021 from Provincial PESO Manager Ms. Charito C. Dator together with Labor and Employment Officer III Ms. Darbie Ann A. Fernandez of Department of Labor and Employment - La Union Field Office at 4th Floor, LUPAC Building, Quezon Ave., City of San Fernando, La Union.

Before the start of SPES Employment Period, the 30 SPES beneficiaries were directed to undergo CoViD-19 RT-PCR Swab Test as part of the strict compliance in the CoViD-19 Safety and Health Protocols of PGLU. All test results were negative and the majority of the 2nd batch SPES workers were already inoculated with CoViD-19 Vaccines.

SPES is one of the PESO programs that aims to help needy but deserving students to encourage and provide employment to be able to gain income to help them pursue their education. This program is mandated under Republic Act 10917 and DOLE Department Order No. 175 Series of 2017. The 30 SPES Workers rendered employment in PGLU on November 15 – December 17, 2021.

SPES is an excellent training ground for students to discover and develop their skills as they go on with their studies. This program has always been a part of PGLU’s development agenda for education and employment.
