To help La Union farmers in their production, income generation, and recovery, Gov. Francisco Emmanuel "Pacoy" R. Ortega III spearheaded the turning over of 30 units of corn planters to La Union Corn Growers and Farmers Association, Inc. on October 21, 2021 at the Municipality of Bacnotan, La Union. The activity is aligned to the vision of the province to position La Union as the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025.
As a part of the Time with Gov initiative, the program also served as an open dialogue of Gov. Pacoy and the local farmers discussing their current situations and needs.
The association-recipients of the corn planters were Bacnotan Corn Cluster Association; Salbasaca Irrigators Association; San Martin, Palayamanin Farmers Association Inc.; Balaoan La Union Corn Growers Association Inc.; Bangar Corn and Peanut Growers Association; Brgy. Saoay Farmers Association; Barangobong Farmers Association; Lubing Farmers Association of San Juan La Union Inc.; Calincamasan Farmers Association Inc.; New Dangdangla San Juan La Union Farmers Association Inc.; Paagan Irrigators Association Inc.; Sudipen La Union Corn Farmers Association Inc.; Bless our Organic Association; Macalva Neighborhood Investment Multi-Purpose Cooperative; Samahang Magpapalay at Magmamais ng San Antonio Inc.; Sta. Cecilia Multi-Purpose Cooperative; Timpuyog Ti Mannalon iti Sta. In his message, Gov. Pacoy extended his utmost gratitude to the farmers who are the forefront of the Agri-Tourism Strategy of the province. He also assured them of his full support through the continuous provision of farm to market roads, farm supplies and equipment, and other assistance based on their needs assessment. The fund used for the program was from La Unionโs 2020 National Corn Quality Award.
Joining the turning over ceremony were First District Board Member Paolo Ortega, Bacnotan Mayor Francisco Angelito Fontanilla, Provincial Agriculturist Col. Ramon F. Laudencia and Association President Eduardo C. Balanag with some local farmers.
La Union farmers remain as one of the top priorities of the provincial government along with other sectors as the province moves forward to a Stronger La Union, a province worth living in.
