In support to the Online Weekend Market dubbed as SALU-SALO: Saluad La Union para Serbisio, Agri-Turismo, Lako ken Opurtunidad, the Provincial Government - Environment and Natural Resources Office (PG-ENRO) conducted a Community PanTree Program on August 28, 2021 for the North La Union Agri-Tourism Circuit (Balaoan, Luna, Bangar, Santol and Sudipen).

The activity aims to raise awareness on the importance of planting trees in diminishing the unfavorable effects of climate change as well as to strengthen local government units (LGU) and community collaboration towards environmental protection by way of coordination and distribution of native trees. This is also, in support to the Governor’s Project TREE (Taking Responsibility for the ELYUs Environment) aligned to the Provincial Government of La Union’s #KalikasanNaman campaign on fostering ecological integrity and clean and healthy environment.

A total of 500 assorted seedlings of native forest and fruit trees from Pias Provincial Nursery were distributed allocating 100 seedlings per LGU. The seedlings included Dalipawen, Pamittaogen, Indian tree, Bittaog, Narra, Fire tree, Alibangbang, Pakak, Arangin, Molave, Tammarind, Cacao and Jackfruit. 80 farmers and Quarry Permit Holders of the North La Union Circuit were the beneficiaries.

Two staff from the PG-ENRO were designated per LGU to oversee and facilitate the activity with the active participation of the Environmental Management Coordinators, Municipal Agriculturist Officer and officials of the chosen Barangays of every LGU. Health and safety protocols were also strictly implemented during the activity.
