The Provincial Government of La Union remains proactive in our PDRITR strategy, preparing for the possible surge in cases, especially with the CoViD-19 Delta Variant presence in our neighboring provinces. Furthermore, the PGLU, through the Provincial Health Office, continues to intensify its partnership with the private and public hospitals to scale up efforts in the prevention, detection, and treatment of CoViD-19 cases across the Province.

The Delta variant is the most transmissible version of SARS-COV2, which causes coronavirus disease (COVID-19). Dr. Eduardo S. Posadas, Provincial Health Officer, confirmed that CoVid-19 Delta variant had been detected in the neighboring provinces of La Union, particularly Ilocos Norte.

Even without a reported case of the said highly contagious Delta variant in the Province of La Union, Governor Emmanuel "Pacoy" R. Ortega orders the Province's CoViD-19 Task Force to escalate operations in response to the CoViD-19. Therefore, one of the notable developments in the CoViD-19 processes of the PGLU is the continuous development of strategic plans, such as the formulation of the CoViD-19 Delta Variant Action Plan.

PGLU CoViD-19 Vaccination Program Task Force Focal Person and Vaccination Operations Manager, Dr. Dan William Dacanay, says that the task force closely works with hospitals across the Province. He also emphasized that the PGLU has strong ties with the apex hospitals of the Province, especially with the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center (ITRMC).

The PHO has also deployed 72 Ligtas CoViD-19 nurses to augment manpower to the Ligtas CoViD Centers (LCC). PGLU also plans to expand LCCs in the Province. On a notable development, Bacnotan District Hospital and Caba District Hospital can also now accommodate CoViD-19 patients.

The best approach to beat CoViD-19 Delta Variant is to assure that every Kaprobinsiaan who belongs to the priority group of the Department of Health will be vaccinated.

PGLU's good health delivery network is being put to good use - enabling the PGLU to use finite resources more judiciously and efficiently. Efficient and timely referral of cases from the different Local Government Units to the District Hospitals or to the apex hospital (ITRMC) was established through the Health Care Provider Network in La Union.

Kaprobinsiaans are encouraged to follow the public health protocols of the DOH strictly. Furthermore, the Province has launched the #LigtasYanKaprobinsiaan Campaign to create awareness that the virus is still out there; thus, everyone should know their responsibilities to protect their loved ones and prevent the spread of CoViD-19 Delta Variant.

The threat of the Delta variant further brings a sense of urgency to vaccinate more people. Therefore, speeding up the vaccination rollout is the PGLU's utmost priority, especially for the priority groups.

As of press time, the Province has already administered 139,698 vaccines in the Province of La Union. Thus, 104,125 individuals are vaccinated, of whom 63,628 are fully vaccinated.
According to Dr. Dan William Dacanay, the Province is now on its way to vaccinate at least 20% by mid-august and is looking forward to achieving 50% vaccination operations by the end of December.

Gov. Pacoy Ortega ensures that every Kaprobinsiaan is protected against the CoViD-19 Virus. Gov. Pacoy Ortega also continues to strengthen the implementation of the Prevent-Detect-Isolate-Treat-Reintegrate (PDITR) Strategy.

PGLU is committed to providing public service amidst the threat of CoViD-19. Each one of us has a role in this fight. We must act together as one for the protection of our families and our beloved Province. However, our fight is far from over, now is the time for us to stand as one Kaprobinsiaan, for we are only stronger if we have each other all for a #StrongerLaUnion.
