Caba District Hospital (CDH) Mobile Blood Donation (MBD) Program spearheaded the 23rd Mobile Blood Donation “Alay Sagip Buhay” in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross (PRC)-La Union Chapter and the Provincial Health Office of the Provincial Government of La Union on March 12, 2021, at Caba District Hospital, Caba, La Union.

A total of 14 volunteer blood donors from CDH and other walk-in donors successfully donated their blood.

The said activity intended to promote voluntary blood donation to provide sufficient supply of safe blood and inculcate public awareness that blood donation is a humanitarian act and that the blood supply relies on free and voluntary blood donations.

Blood donation is a quick, easy, and safe process, but only small subsections of the population are regular blood donors. Out of the people who are considered “eligible” to donate blood, only about 10 percent choose to do so. Because blood donation is an entirely voluntary process, World Blood Donor Day is an important reminder of how there can never be such a thing as too many blood donations.

A decision to donate blood can save a life. A regular and sufficient supply of blood can only be assured through donations from regular, voluntary, unpaid blood donors. They are the safest group of donors because the prevalence of bloodborne infections is lowest among them.

Republic Act No. 7719, also known as the National Blood Services Act of 1994, promotes voluntary donation to provide sufficient supply of safe blood and to regulate blood banks. CDH Mobile Blood Donation Program is a quarterly activity of the hospital to augment blood supply in the province and create awareness of the importance of donating blood to save others' lives.
