PGLU, TESDA to Leverage on Skills Dev’t for Stronger La Union

The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) reaffirmed their ties to promote technical education and skills development among the people of La Union, to empower them in becoming catalysts in building a Stronger La Union, a province worth living in.
The strengthening of this collaboration was discussed as Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III welcomed TESDA Deputy Director General Gabriel Luis R. Quisumbing in a courtesy call on February 4, 2021 at the Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union.
Gov. Pacoy relayed to DDG Quisumbing the initiatives of the PGLU on crisis response and recovery, as the province remains resolute in rising above the challenges of the CoViD-19 pandemic.
The Governor shared the La Union Transformative Governance Roadmap, which lays out the Provincial Strategy on Response, Recovery, and Local Economic Development.
In the roadmap, the PGLU shall “cultivate a culture of innovation.” Gov. Pacoy sees this area as an opportunity to maximize the services of TESDA, to equip the constituents with the technical know-how for them to become innovative, multi-skilled, versatile and productive.
The roadmap also emphasizes on the focus to “establish La Union as a secure, self-sufficient and sustainable province.” Gov. Pacoy believes that upskilling every kaprobinsiaan can help build a self-sufficient constituency.
Meanwhile, DDG Quisumbing assured that the TESDA remains in the forefront in skills development which now takes a stronger role as the nation recovers from the pandemic. As the DDG for Communities and Local Government Unit Services, Quisumbing assured he will closely work with La Union to align their objectives on crisis response and recovery.
After the courtesy call, DDG Quisumbing proceeded to Santol, La Union to meet with Mayor Magno Wailan and award starter kits to TESDA scholar-graduates in the town, as part of TESDA’s Poverty Reduction, Livelihood and Employment Cluster program. Joining DDG Quisumbing were TESDA Regional Dir. Vincent Atienza Cifra, Provincial Dir. Elpidio Mamaril, Jr., and PGLU PESO Manager Charito Dator.
