#letmetelyu: "Haan a mapabpabayaan iti Senior Citizens ditoy probinsia ket my dream for La Union ket iti greater a focus koma iti Provincial Government ket iti health and wellness iti Senior Citizens."
After retirement from public service in 2003, Senior Citizen Lisa Payoyo Andres has dedicated her time in serving her fellow elderlies in the Municipality of Bauang.
“As a Senior Citizen, I love La Union, especially during this COVID-time, haan na kami binaybay-an ni apo gobernador- amin nga families, especially the senior citizens.”
“I take good care of myself ngem adu gayam iti babbaket a di da pay makapagnan, di da pay makabangonen, ken haan dan a makakita.” With the help of the Provincial and Local Government Units and the Office of the Senior Citizen’s Affairs, she came up with work programs on four areas for her fellow Senior Citizens.
The first area is Information Education Campaign. “Napanak kadagiti barangay a naglecture panggep iti RA 9994, the Senior Citizens Act.” She also shared that their office ensures that all Senior Citizens have their IDs and purchase booklets. Health and wellness lectures, caregiving, livelihood, leadership and management trainings are also part of this.
The second area is Health and Wellness. They give free flu and pneumonia vaccines, and assistive device for non-ambulatory senior citizens. They conduct foot and bone screening, medical mission, eye check-up and physical therapy. They also give monetary gift for centenarians of Bauang.
The third area is Socio-Cultural Activities where they conduct elderly socialization, House to House Serenade, and celebrate Elderly Month in October and Panagkakararua. They also enjoy socialization at the Jolly Salu-Salo Para Kay Lolo at Lola.
The fourth area is Livelihood Project wherein they maintain The Senior Citizens Garden planted with Turmeric, Moringa and Herbs which they later on process for selling. They also make charcoal briquettes.
On top of the four areas of work programs is their Spiritual Activities which include their Visita Iglesia and the Rehabilitation of “Bubon Ni San Vicente Ferrer” in Bauang.
“Iti nagdakkel a naitulong ti Provincial Government kadakami, a provincial building in Bauang was turned over to us to be used by the Senior Citizens,” said lola Lisa as she also expressed her joy for the Provincial Government’s financial assistance for the families of departed elderlies and financial grants for centenarians.
Just like Lola Lisa, the Provincial Government of La Union upholds the high importance of senior citizens in the community and in building a province that is conducive for elderlies to thrive.
