AGRI-TOURISM STREETDANCING HIGHLIGHTS LU CULTURE, CREATIVITY

Streetdancers from Bauang sway to the tune of “Municipalities of La Union” along the national highway in City of San Fernando, La Union during the Agri-Tourism Street Dancing Competition on February 28, 2020 as a part of the celebration of the 170th Founding Anniversary of the Province of La Union. The competition highlighted the culture and creativity as well as showcased the Agri-Tourism industry of the component city and municipalities of the province.
In celebration of the 170th La Union Founding Anniversary and the National Arts Month, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), through the La Union Provincial Tourism Office, conducted an Agri-Tourism Street Dancing Competition on February 28, 2020 which highlighted the culture and creativity as well as showcased the Agri-Tourism industry of the component city and municipalities of the province.
A total of seven groups joined the competition which include contingents from the City of San Fernando and Municipalities of Bauang, Rosario, Pugo, Aringay, Burgos, and Bagulin.
The groups carried various themes in their showdown presentations that all leaned toward this year’s theme, “La Union 2020: Eyeing Transformation, Focusing on Love.”
Hundreds of viewers locals and tourists alike, lined up along the parade route from the City Plaza to the National Highway and Guerrero Road towards Aguila Road. The parade ended at the Provincial Capitol Complex for the Inter-LGU Streetdance Showdown.
The criteria for the judging for said competition include costume and props that depict the Agri-Tourism industry, culture and/or tradition and presenting variety of festivals from their respective towns such as Pindangan Festival in the City of San Fernando, Baggak Festival in Bauang, Linubian Festival in Rosario, Tinungbo Festival in Pugo, Bangus Festival in Aringay, Buyboy Festival in Burgos and Bagulin.
The Municipality of Bauang was hailed as the Grand Winner taking home Php170,000.00 while the first runner-up was given to the City of San Fernando for Php130,000.00 and second runner-up to the Municipality of Pugo for Php100,000.00. Non-winners got a consolation prize of Php10,000.00. The Queen of Festival, a member of the LGBTQIA+ Community, was given to the queen from the Municipality of Burgos who received a prize of Php10,000.00.
The show was also shown LIVE at the Official Facebook Page of the PGLU, www.facebook.com/LGUlaunion for those who were not present in the actual venue.
