BDH HELPS PROTECT CHILDREN, WOMEN RIGHTS

Police officer PLt. Arcelie Pang-ag answers queries of an elementary pupil and a mother during her awareness lecture about violence against women and rape to barangay health workers, barangay officials of Quirino, Bacnotan, La Union, and elementary pupils of Quirino Elementary School on February 12, 2020. As part of Bacnotan District Hospital’s community involvement by creating awareness about timely issues, the activity was conducted in observance of National Awareness Week.

The Bacnotan District Hospital (BDH), in partnership with the Philippine National Police, conducted an awareness lecture about violence against women and rape to barangay health workers (BHWs) and barangay officials of Quirino, Bacnotan, La Union and elementary pupils of Quirino Elementary School on February 12, 2020. This is in observance of National Awareness Week for the Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation. In said training, PLt. Arcelie Pang-ag to discussed about Republic Act No. 9262 also known as Anti-Violence against Women and Their Children (VAWC) Act of 2004.

PLt. Pang-ag said that as stated in the law, any person, private individual or police authority or barangay official who responds or intervenes without using violence or restraint greater than necessary to ensure the safety of the victim, shall not be liable for any criminal, civil or administrative liability.

As part of the former topic, PLt. Pang-ag also lectured about the Anti-Rape Law or Republic Act No. 8353. She explained that this act expands the definition of the crime of rape, reclassifying the same as a crime against persons. The students actively asked questions to the speaker which were answered consequently. This activity is part of BDH’s community involvement by creating awareness about timely issues.
