BDH Provides Elderly Health Treat

Visiting Internal Medicine Specialist of Bacnotan District Hospital (BDH) Dr. Sherwin dela Cruz together with BDH Chief Dr. Zenserly Pagaduan answer the health concerns of the senior citizens during the open forum on diabetes and hypertension on October 1, 2019 at BDH, Bacnotan, La Union.

In celebration of the Filipino Elderly Week, around 30 senior citizens were given free health consultation, random blood glucose testing and blood pressure screening by Dr. Sherwin dela Cruz, visiting Internal Medicine Specialist of Bacnotan District Hospital (BDH) on October 1, 2019.

Dr. dela Cruz reminded the senior citizens to take care of their health by monitoring their blood glucose and blood pressure during his lecture about diabetes mellitus and hypertension.

In the discussion, he highlighted some of the symptoms of diabetes which are frequent thirst, frequent hunger, frequent urination, feeling tired, sudden weight loss, and blurred vision. He advised the elderlies, especially those who already have high blood glucose levels, to control their food intake. This is to prevent long term complications such as vision impairment, kidney problems, and nerve damage.

Dr. dela Cruz emphasized that diabetes and hypertension are interrelated lifestyle diseases. Moreover, he said that both can be controlled through healthy eating, increased physical activity, lifestyle modifications and regular medications.
