CDH PROMOTES SUICIDE PREVENTION, INFORMATION, AWARENESS

IT TAKES ALL TO PREVENT SUICIDE. In celebration of the National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, Caba District Hospital (CDH) Social Welfare Officer, Mary Ann Halog promotes suicide prevention, information and awareness through Information Education Campaign at CDH Outpatient Waiting Area, Caba, La Union on September 10, 2019. The said activity with the aim to create awareness and counter the increasing trend of suicide, was participated in by OPD patients and watchers.
In celebration of the National Suicide Prevention Awareness month, Caba District Hospital promoted suicide prevention, information and awareness through Information Education Campaign at CDH Outpatient Waiting Area, Caba, La Union on September 10, 2019.
Social Welfare Officer Mary Ann O. Halog discussed various issues that result to suicide like depression and other mental disorders. She also tackled the Republic Act 11036 or the Mental Health Act of 2018. She also emphasized the importance of having compassion when talking and listening to people suffering from mental disorders. “We can encourage them to seek professional help. Let’s stop the stigma towards them, be an agent of change,” she said.
Based from Department of Health Regional Office I data, there were 108 suicide cases in the region for 2018. Ilocos Norte has the highest suicide incidents with 31 cases, Pangasinan has 27 cases, La Union with 16 cases, and Ilocos Sur with 15 cases. The most common method used was hanging.
Information Education Campaign is a regular activity of the hospital to create greater health awareness to achieve the Governor’s mission to have a Healthy La Union and Happy La Union by 2022.
