Elderlies Participate in Joint Assembly, Mini-Olympics

The Provincial Federation of Senior Citizens’ Association of La Union (PFSCALU) holds a Joint Assembly and Mini-Olympics on September 26, 2019 at the Municipal Civic Center, San Juan, La Union.
A total of 351 senior citizens from the 20 local government units of the province attended the event.
An information dissemination regarding the update on Republic Act 11350 creating the National Commission of Senior Citizens was part of the program.
A mini-olympics where delegates of each LGU competed on the different game categories.
Winners for the different contests were the representatives from Bauang for Marathon Men 75 meters; City of San Fernando for Marathon Women 50 meters, Eggplant Relay and Youngest SC Participant; Agoo for Egg Catching, Threading the Needle and Senior Citizens Got Talent; Burgos for Calamansi Eating; Tubao for Trip to Jerusalem and arm wrestling; San Juan for Oldest SC Participant; and the 2nd District of La Union for Tug of War.
The Municipality Agoo emerged as overall champion. They received a cash prize and a trophy.
The activity concluded with a raffle draw giving away television, bicycle, desk and stand fan, and assorted grocery items to the winners.
Initiated by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development, the activity was also an avenue for the finalization of plan of activities for the Elderly Week Celebration on October 14, 2019 to be held at the Diego Silang Hall, Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union. This year’s theme for Elderly Filipino Week is “Healthy and Productive Aging Starts with Me.”
