2nd Celebration of the Piesta Ti Karayan Amburayan

The Provincial Government of La Union through the Governor - Environment and Natural Resources Unit (OPG- ENRU) joins the Department of Environment and Natural Resources –Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) and other National and Non-Government Agencies and Academe including the Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur in the celebration of the 2nd Piesta ti Karayan Amburayan at the Municipality of Sugpon, Ilocos Sur on July 5, 2019.

Piesta ti Karayan Amburayan is an annual event created through DENR-EMB Resolution No. 1 Series of 2018 entitled; “RESOLUTION DECLARING AN ANNUAL CELEBRATION OF PIESTA TI KARAYAN AMBURAYAN TO BE HELD EVERY LAST FRIDAY OF JUNE OF EACH YEAR”. This year, said event was move to July due to transition period /change in administration. This endeavour is a part of the Lower Amburayan River System-Water Quality Management Area (LARS-WQMA) program which aims to protect and ensure the water quality of the Lower Amburayan river system thru stakeholders’ engagement.

Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III, duly represented by Mr. Justo Orros III, pointed out the importance of stakeholders collaboration in order to have a sustainable environment. “Everything is interdependent and interconnected to each other, the rivers, no matter how long and winding they may be, are all connected to each other and they all end to ocean, the farmlands where we nurture the food that we eat and where we plant the trees that protect us , all share the same air, the same ground water, and the same soil hence the need to harmonize every action,” he said. Further, he also stated that we human beings are all interlinked, that our lives cross path at one point, and that we may come from various social, educational and economic backgrounds, but there’s one thing that put us all in this one envelope and that is the ENVIRONMENT. As an ending message, the governor encouraged each and every one, poor or rich, old and young, with privileged nor entitled to continue forging effort and be united in protecting and preserving the Lower Amburayan river and the environment as a whole because we are equal and all are accountable. Lastly, he added that initiatives come with deep passion and true commitment and one thing crucial to environmental sustainability is people’s solidarity.

Activities on this event include ceremonial tree planting of 50 Bamboo propagules, 200 guyabano seedlings and dispersal of 76,000 fingerlings. Moreover, presentation of the framework of the environmental laws to the youth together with the Municipal and Barangay officials the LGU Sugpon, Ilocos Sur were also done.
