The Bacnotan District Hospital (BDH) personnel in partnership with the Bacnotan Police Station officers and students of Saint Louis College – Louisian Theatre Ensemble, conducted an anti-drug abuse lecture and stage play at Bacnotan National High School on June 26, 2019 in celebration of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking of Drugs.

Consequences and penalties in using and in possession of prohibited substances were specifically emphasized by the police officers.
On the same day, fresh graduate members of Saint Louis College – Louisian Theatre Ensemble, with their adviser, Mr. Vernon Albert Cabading, depicted the dire consequences of using drugs as a student through a stage play.
This year’s theme for the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking of Drugs is “Health for Justice. Justice for Health.” According to the United Nations (UN), the theme highlights that justice and health are two sides of the same coin when it comes to addressing drug problems. Moreover, the UN stated that effective responses to the world drug problem require inclusive and accountable institutions of criminal justice, health and social services to work hand in hand to provide integrated solutions, in line with the international drug control conventions, human rights obligations and the Sustainable Development Goals.
In support of the National Drug Education Program as provided in Section 43, Article IV of Republic Act No. 9165, the Department of Education (DepEd) issued Preventive Drug Education Program Policy for Curriculum and Instruction which states that drug abuse prevention and control shall be integrated in the elementary, secondary and tertiary curricula of all public and private schools, whether general, technical, vocational or agro-industrial as well as in non-formal, informal and indigenous learning systems.
