PGLU DONATES MEDICAL EQUIPMENT, MULTICAB VEHICLES TO SURFING CAPITAL OF THE NORTH

Gov. Pacoy hands over a key to one of the recipients of a multicab vehicle on December 20, 2018 at the Provincial Capitol Grounds, City of San Fernando, La Union. The turning over ceremony of the 17 vehicles completes the multi-purpose vehicles for all the 41 barangays in San Juan, La Union the Surfing Capital of the North.
The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), through Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III, donated medical equipment and one unit of multicab vehicle each to the last batch of barangays of San Juan, La Union on December 20, 2018 at the Provincial Capitol Grounds, City of San Fernando, La Union in support of its increasing tourist arrivals.
After House Bill No. 6683 declaring La Union as the Surfing Capital of the North was passed in the Committee Hearing in the Senate on October 4, 2018, the PGLU saw the possible effects of increased tourist arrivals. Thus, the need to equip and prepare the Surfing Hub, San Juan in terms of emergency preparedness and security.
A total of 17 barangays including Barangays Allangigan, Aludaid, Bacsayan, Balballosa, Bambanay, Caarusipan, Cabugnayan, Catdungan, Dangdangla, Dinanum, Nagsabaran, Naguirangan, Oaquing, Pagdildilan, Quidem, Saracat and Sinapangan received the vehicles and medical equipment.
“Aside from the patrol for peace and order…it’s for public safety and disaster management,” said Gov. Pacoy during the turn over ceremony.
Barangay Chairpersons were presented with the terms and conditions of the Deed of Donation and the proper use of the vehicles facilitated by the Provincial Legal Officer, Atty. Dominique Jose S. Puzon at the Diego Silang Hall of the Provincial Capitol. Provincial Accountant Atty. Albert F. Padilla, led the blessing of the vehicles through a prayer.
Municipal Mayor of San Juan Hon. Arturo P. Valdriz, expressed his gratitude to the PGLU on behalf of the municipality. He highlighted that the vehicles will further capacitate first responders as the number tourists in the Surfing Capital of the North continues to increase.
During the turnover Provincial General Services Officer Emelda P. Pascual mobilized her staff to assist in handing over the vehicle documents and the medical equipment to the barangay officials.
Aligned in the interest of public service, the conditional donation of the multicab vehicles with medical equipment aims to enhance the maintenance of peace and order and the provision of immediate medical attention and/or rescue in times of emergencies to the constituents of the barangay as stated in the Local Government Code of 1991.
The turning over ceremony completes the multi-purpose vehicles for all the 41 barangays in San Juan. The first batch was awarded on August 1, 2018 to the first 24 barangays.
