LUPJ Observes National Correctional Consciousness Week

La Union Provincial Jail conducts different sports activities and talent search to uplift the Persons Deprived of Liberty during the celebration of 2018 National Correctional Consciousness Week from October 22-26, 2018, La Union Provincial Jail, Pias, City of San Fernando, La Union.
The La Union Provincial Jail (LUPJ) celebrated the National Correctional Consciousness Week (NACOCOW) with activities intended to rehabilitate and transform Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) into normal and responsible citizens on October 22 to 26, 2018 at the LUPJ, Pias, City of San Fernando, La Union.
“This celebration is in pursuant to Presidential Proclamation 551 series of 1995, which aims to recognize and value the dignity of every PDL and guarantee full respect for human rights,” LUPJ Warden Rimas G. Calixto said.
With the theme “Pagbabago sa Kanlungan ng Piitan ay Tunay na Makakamtan sa Makabagong Pamamaraan,” the LUPJ in coordination with partner agencies and inmates, conducted various activities which included the provision of spiritual and guidance counselling, poster making contest, parlor games, are sportsmanship drive from the Parole and Probation Office. Search for Feeling Pogi and Gandang LUPJ was also held, that served as the culmination program.
NACOCOW aims to raise the level of consciousness and promote awareness in both public and private sectors on the plight of prisoners, detainees, probationers and parolees. It also made an impact on the re-socialization process of every inmate for their eventual reintegration to the society.
The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), headed by Gov. Francisco Emmanuel "Pacoy" R. Ortega III, recognizes the potential contributions of PDLs in the attainment of the vision of the province to make La Union the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025.
The LUPJ, with the full support of the PGLU, commits to continuously improve and level up the celebration of NACOCOW in the coming years.
