Employees of the La Union Medical Center paraded their pet dogs clothed in cute and adorable costumes during the hospital’s first ever Pet Fashion Show, in the observance of the World Rabies Day on September 27, 2018.
In celebration of the World Rabies Day, the La Union Medical Center (LUMC) held various activities on September 26-27, 2018 with the theme “Rabies: Share the Message. Save a Life.”
Co-organized by LUMC’s Outpatient Department (OPD) and Animal Bite Treatment Center (ABTC), the celebration opened with a lecture on the Updates of Management of Rabies Exposure on September 26, 2018 with LUMC’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Glenn Ernest M. Fonbuena as lecturer. This highlighted the importance of education and awareness on rabies exposure. After the lecture, employees gathered for a Zumba session to promote healthy lifestyle.
“The LUMC seeks to explore practical and cost-effective platforms to promote the campaign and reinforce key messages on rabies control and prevention,” Dr. Fonbuena said.
On September 27, 2018, Dr. Nancy P. Talucod, LUMC’s ABTC Physician, convened OPD patients and watchers as she talked about Rabies Awareness. Senior high school students competed in the Poster Making Contest which was held simultaneously at the Dr. Eufranio “Franny” C. Eriguel Memorial Hall. At 3:00pm, twenty employees paraded their pet dogs clothed in cute and adorable costumes during the hospital’s first ever Pet Fashion Show. On September 28, 50 OPD patients were given free Rabies vaccine.
The World Rabies Day was set up in 2007 to raise global awareness about rabies, to provide information on how to prevent the disease in at-risk communities and support advocacy for increased efforts in rabies control. It is held annually on September 28th, with events, media outreach and other initiatives carried out by individuals, professionals, organizations and governments from the local to the international level.
