LU SP Recognizes Literature Pride

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of La Union recognized one of the sons of La Union, Mr. Rodrigo Velbis- dela Peña, Jr., for his exemplary achievements in the field of literature during the 117th Regular Session of SP on September 27, 2018 at the Speaker Pro-Tempore Francisco I. Ortega Provincial Legislative Building and Session Hall, Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union.
The SP passed Resolution No. 582-2018 congratulating and commending Mr. dela Peña, who hails from Balaoan, La Union, for winning the Carlos Palanca Award for Literature in various years. The award is the most prestigious and longest running literary contest in the country recognizing Filipino writers.
Mr. dela Peña’s literary work entitled “Aria and Trumpet Flourish” won 3rd Prize under the poetry category in 2014, while his work entitled “Blood Compact” won 2nd Prize in Poetry Category in 2017. For this year’s competition, his work “Self Portrait with Plastic Bag” won 1st Prize in English Poetry Category.
For having excelled in the art of writing and for bringing honor and prestige to the province, Mr. dela Peña was nominated to the La Union Service Award for the Pammadayaw 2019 and will be receiving a cash incentive provided under SP Ordinance No. 072-2015.
