As Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III aims for a Healthy and Happy La Union by 2022, Bacnotan District Hospital (BDH) recognized 119 Tuberculosis – Directly Observed Treatment Short Course (TB-DOTS) completers during first Lung and TB Care Recognition Day on August 28, 2018 in celebration of Lung Month.

These are patients who had successfully completed their treatment course and were fully cured since the TB-DOTS Clinic started in 2015 through the constant monitoring of the clinic’s nurse, Ms. Evangelina G. Karganilla. Cured patients were given tokens as their incentive.

“We hold this event to show gratitude to our patients for trusting us (hospital employees) and our services. Most importantly, we aim to lessen the stigma placed upon lung diseases particularly TB,” said Chief of BDH Dr. Zenserly D. Pagaduan. “Through this event, other patients are encouraged not to be hesitant in seeking health consultation. We are here to give them hope, and that it is not yet the end of the world when you have TB because medicines are free and you will be cured if you follow TB-DOTS,” she added.

Head of the TB-DOTS Committee Dr. Seves C. Corpuz emphasized that the committee is one with the Department of Health’s (DOH) mission in ensuring that TB diagnostic treatment and information are available and accessible to the community in collaboration with the Local Government Units (LGUs) and other partner agencies.

The Provincial Government of La Union and BDH support the vision of DOH in achieving a country where TB is no longer a public health problem.
