With the goal of empowering the mothers in La Union, the Provincial Government of La Union through the Provincial Population Office, conducted a Mothers’ Class to Married Women of Reproductive Ages (MWRA) in Barangay Patac, Sto. Tomas, La Union on July 18-20, 2018.

There were 34 mothers invited by the Barangay Service Point Officers who participated in said event. The program served as scaffolds to the mothers to set enough time and opportunity to care and provide attention to themselves, their husbands, and children.

This three-day seminar-workshop primarily aimed to provide information and skills to MWRA on Responsible Parenthood and Family Planning, Maternal and Child Health Care, Nutrition Education and Environmental Sanitation. It also helped strengthen their marriages through recognizing the elements of a successful marriage. They were also taught about livelihood projects which they can adopt to augment their income.

The program is conducted annually to chosen municipalities of the province. For this year, the program focused in the municipalities of San Gabriel, Luna, Caba, and Sto. Tomas.

In her message, Provincial Population Officer Ms. Mila L. Gamboa gave tips for a lasting marriage and the execution of duties as a mother. “Ang bawat mag-asawa ay may kanya-kanyang formula ng pagsasama, huwag ninyong ikompara ang pagsasama ninyong mag-asawa sa ibang mag-asawa,” she said.

At the end of the program, mothers were capacitated to strive for a good time, good education, and a better future for their children.

To ensure the sustainability of this program, an immediate output of their work such as dishwashing liquid, fabric conditioner, among others were required as their gainful livelihood projects that will augment their income and that may contribute to poverty alleviation.

Last year, same training was conducted in the municipalities of Sudipen, Santol, Bagulin and Tubao.
