LA UNION PREPARES FOR 9TH AYAT FESTIVAL

AYAT FESTIVAL PREPARATION. Members of the La Union Council for Language and Culture (LUCLC) convene on July 9, 2018 at the Diego Silang Hall, Provincial Capitol Building, City of San Fernando, La Union. In the said meeting, preparations and activities for the upcoming celebration of the 8th Ayat Festival were discussed.

The La Union Council for Language and Culture (LUCLC), headed by Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III, convened on July 9, 2018 at the Diego Silang Hall, Provincial Capitol Building, City of San Fernando, La Union. The main agenda was the upcoming 9th Ayat Festival.

The meeting was presided by Provincial Information and Tourism Officer, Mr. Adamor L. Dagang and was attended by the members of LUCLC. Other topics tackled were the Culture Promotion Aspect of the LUCLC; Nominations for Kampeon ti Lengguahe; and the preservation of the different industry in the province which represents its culture.

For this year’s festival, the theme is “Pabaknangen ti kultura ken Lengguahe nga Ilokano.” As part of the festivity, the usual activities that promotes the Iloco Language and Culture such as Iskrabiloko, a scrabble game of Ilocano words; Street Dancing Competition; La Union Henio Version 2; Ilokano Chorale; and Salip ti Deklamasion will be held. An Ilokano Essay writing contest, which is new activity for this year, will also be conducted.

To be able to familiarize the youth about culture and arts, participants of the activities will be students from Elementary and Junior High School in the province. The opening will be held in Bacnotan, La Union on August 13, 2018.

The Ayat Festival is a series of events celebrating and fostering local language, culture and talent, in accordance with the Provincial Ordinance 026-2012, the Local Language Code of La Union otherwise known as the Iloko Code, a comprehensive policy establishing Ilokano as the official provincial language and institutionalizing its use along with other national and official languages.
