BM Mannix: “My Legacy Will Remain!”

Board Member Manuel Victor “Mannix” R. Ortega, Jr. bids farewell after 10 years in service, but the former Board Member says his legacy will remain.

An emotional Mannix Ortega, Jr. said goodbye to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) in his speech on April 30, 2018 after his resignation as ABC President and ex-officio Member of SP. He said that he could not have achieved his accomplishments as ABC President if not for the help of his colleagues. He thanked every Board Member especially Vice Gov. Aureo Augusto Q. Nisce for being a good mentor and loyal to the former Gov. Manoling Ortega and his brother, the current Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega.

He narrated the start of his political career when his father, the former Gov. Manoling convinced him to run as Punong Barangay of Barangay Canaoay in the City of San Fernando way back 2008 of which he was elected as ABC President and sat as Ex- Officio member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of the Province of La Union.

He chaired the Committee on Youth and Sports Development. As chair, he initiated a lot of sports activities and sports clinic throughout the province intended for the youth for them to stay away from drugs. Aside from this, he proposed the construction of multi- purpose covered court in every barangay of the Municipality of San Juan, La Union, and he envisioned this to be finished by his first term in office if elected as Vice Mayor of San Juan, La Union.

His resignation took effect on April 30, 2018 due to the clamor of the people of San Juan, La Union, for BM Mannix to run for Vice Mayor this coming local election in 2019 in tandem with the Mayor of San Juan, Mayor Arturo Valdriz.

In closing, BM Mannix thanked all the staff in SP headed by Mr. Donato A. Rimando. He also thanked his family for all their love and support, and the people of San Juan.

The said event has been graced by the SP Members headed by Vice Governor Aureo Q. Nisce. In attendance were ABC Presidents of the different municipalities of the Province, Punong Barangays of the City of San Fernando, La Union, and the Municipality of San Juan, La Union. The impressive turnout is the reflection of the gratitude and support for BM Mannix for his dynamic leadership and role in uplifting the lives of the people of La Union. He was replaced by Hon. Erwina C. Eriguel of Agoo, La Union which is the current Vice President of the league.
