1st Women's Summit Of La Union Conducted

A renowned inspirational speaker in the country, Mr. Francis Kong, inspires the women of La Union as Guest Speaker during the 2018 Women’s Summit/ Symposium held on May 8, 2018 at the Diego Silang Hall, Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union.
City of San Fernando, LU – The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) conducted the 1st Women’s Summit with the theme, “We Make Change Work for Women” held on May 8, 2018 at the Diego Silang Hall, Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union.
In his message, Gov. Francisco Emmanuel "Pacoy" R. Ortega III acknowledged the big role of the strong and good women of the beloved province for they will be the backbone of the transformations for La Union. “They (women) will lead the change we dream of in the fields and farms of our lands, in our families with loved ones, in nurturing the great bounty and beauty of our homeland,” said Gov. Pacoy as he further challenged the women to join in his mission to make La Union better.
Institutional Development Division Chief Ms. Anniely Ferrer of Department of Social Welfare and Development shared ways to empower women such as active participation in different organizations, having a sufficient support mechanisms on gender and development; and shared parenting in every households, and non-sexist. She ended with the challenge, “Let us continue our advocacy, we should promote a culture that empower the rights of women; a culture that appreciates their rights - being consulted, engaged and women who will help in development activities.”
Provincial Consultant on Gender and Development Ms. Victoria L. Aragon discussed the salient features and provisions of the Provincial Gender and Development Code.
As part of the advocacy on the rights of women and empowerment, Business Consultant Mr. Francis Kong shared his life experiences and give nuggets of wisdom empowering women.
The summit was attended by Women Leaders like La Union Vibrant Women Inc. - Board of Directors (LUVWI- BOD) Chairperson Mrs. Geraldine R. Ortega, Former LUVWI-Chair of San Fernando City Mrs. Mariquita P. Ortega, LUVWI-BOD of San Juan, La Union Mrs. Ella Valdriz, and women leaders from different women groups. The celebration is also just in time for the upcoming Mother’s Day celebration.
