SHARING BLOOD, SAVING LIVES. Bacnotan District Hospital (BDH) resident physicians Dr. Reynaldo Verganio Jr. and Dr. Arvin Noscal conduct routine visit to Mr. Lazaro Valmonte Jr., a resident of Ballogo, Bacnotan, La Union after his leg operation. He was a recipient of free two blood bags/units from the blood donations of hospital employees and partner agencies in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross – La Union – San Fernando City Chapter.

Recognizing the Blood Service and to cater to the needs of their patients, employees of Bacnotan District Hospital (BDH), headed by Dr. Zenserly Pagaduan, and partner agencies voluntarily donated their blood during a mass blood donation activity at the hospital on April 20, 2018.

In coordination with the Philippine Red Cross – La Union – San Fernando City Chapter, 44 blood bags/units were collected which were donated by the hospital employees (doctors, nurses, allied health staff, and administrative personnel), their friends and relatives. Other donors were from the Philippine National Police Training Service – Regional Special Training Unit I; Philippine Navy; National Bureau of Investigation – Ilocos Regional Office; San Juan, La Union Police Station; and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology – Regional Office I.

Members of the Hospital Blood Transfusion Committee, headed by Dr. Stephen Isidro and coordinated by Ms. Venus Avecilla, conducts the activity every quarter to address the need of blood by the hospital’s patients especially the needy ones and those undergoing haemodialysis. The blood donors believe in the principle of giving the gift of life by sharing their blood; and saving more lives by donating blood together.

One of the recipients of blood units collected from this activity is Mr. Lazaro Valmonte Jr., a resident of Ballogo, Bacnotan, La Union. He received two units of free blood during his leg operation on April 18, 2018. Aside from the blood units, he also received an implant and instrument assistance provided by the Department of Social Welfare and Development – Regional Office I. The operation was performed by the team of Dr. Arvin Noscal, resident orthopedic surgeon of the hospital.

The activity aims to tap cooperation of hospital employees and individual donors from various agencies, as a new way of giving hope to needy residents in the community.
