The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), through the Provincial Government - Environment and Natural Resources Office (PG-ENRO), has launched the use of Bokashi Balls as an innovative and eco-friendly approach to restoring and improving the quality of water in the province’s natural bodies.

In collaboration with the Local Government Unit of Santol, approximately 300 Bokashi Balls were introduced into the waters of Simminublan Falls on April 14, 2025, and Anito Falls on April 22, 2025, both situated in the municipality of Santol.

Bokashi Balls, also known as Mabuhay Balls, are a Japanese environmental technology composed of a microorganism solution of organic materials. Once put in the water, they break down harmful toxins and eliminate bad bacteria, thus promoting the rehabilitation of the water bodies.

Aligned with the strengthened #KalikasanNaman campaign, the use of Bokashi Balls in the province’s waters reflects PGLU’s commitment to environmental sustainability, ensuring a healthier La Union while empowering the agriculture and tourism sectors.
