In celebration of Earth Day 2025 with the theme “Our Power, Our Planet,” the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), through the Provincial Government – Environment and Natural Resources Office (PG-ENRO), spearheaded the Earth Day Run 2025.
This event embodied the essence of La Union PROBINSYAnihan in preserving natural resources and raising awareness of environmental protection. A total of 99 Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University (DMMMSU) students participated in the run, showcasing the youth's active involvement in the cause.
Declared winners in the Male Category were Clarence T. Nieva as Champion, Mark Justine R. Almojuela as 1st Runner-Up, and Roel O. Tebia as 2nd Runner-Up, all from the College of Agriculture. In the Female Category, Camille Ruffa S. De-erit from the Institute of Agribusiness Management secured the Champion title, followed by Hazel Mae F. Generalao and Krischelle G. Arellano, both from the College of Education, as 1st and 2nd Runners-Up, respectively.
Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David, through Executive Assistant Eleazar Belgica, urged the KaPROBINSYAnihan to be more conscious of their environmental impact. “Ngayong araw, #KalikasanNaman ang ating unahin… Let us commit to reducing our use of single-use plastics, lessening our carbon footprint, and even walking more than riding our cars,” she said. The governor emphasized that every small action, when united, creates a lasting impact.
The Earth Day Run is among the various programs of the PGLU dedicated to advancing environmental conservation under the #KalikasanNaman campaign. Through projects like this, the PGLU hopes to inspire more people, especially ELYUcanong Kabataan, to become more environmentally conscious and take progressive steps in caring for the environment.
