The Province of La Union was recognized as the Local Government Unit (LGU) with the Highest Rate of Sustainable Subprojects under the Investments for Rural Enterprises and Agricultural and Fisheries Productivity (I-REAP) component of the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP). The award was given during the North Luzon General Assembly, held on March 6, 2025 at Subic Bay, Zambales, in celebration of PRDP’s 10th anniversary.
This recognition reflects the province’s dedication to enhancing rural enterprises and improving agricultural productivity, which is among the priorities of Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David under her P.U.S.O. Agenda.
Since the PRDP's launch, the province has successfully implemented 10 Small Livelihood Projects and two Regular Subprojects under I-REAP, assisting Farmers Cooperatives and Associations (FCAs) in expanding their businesses and improving economic conditions.
As a pioneering province in Region 1, La Union has consistently led PRDP implementation within the North Luzon Cluster. Its proactive approach and strong local government support have set a benchmark for rural development initiatives.
Beyond enterprise development, La Union has also maximized PRDP’s Infrastructure Development component, completing two farm-to-market roads and two bridges in Naguilian, Aringay, and Rosario. These projects have significantly improved transportation access, market connectivity, and economic opportunities for farming communities.
The award serves as a testament to La Union’s unwavering commitment to sustainable rural development and its continued efforts to uplift the lives of farmers, fisherfolk, and agripreneurs, further solidifying its vision of becoming the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon.
