La Union Medical Center, District Hospitals Unite for Simultaneous Clean-up, Dengue Prevention Drive

In a unified effort to combat mosquito-borne diseases, the La Union Medical Center (LUMC) and all five district hospitals of the province conducted scheduled clean-up drives at 4:00PM on February 24, 27, and 28, 2025 in support of the Department of Health’s (DOH's) “Alas Kwatro Kontra Mosquito” campaign.

The Bacnotan District Hospital along with the nursing students of Union Christian College, initiated their efforts on February 24, 2025, in response to its recorded 22 dengue inpatients as of January 2025.

Rosario District Hospital followed on February 27 through a dengue prevention initiative, Search and Destroy Mosquito Breeding Sites Kick-off Event and health education campaign, participated in by Grade 12 students of Santo Tomas National High School and Nursing students from Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University-South La Union Campus.

Naguilian District Hospital, Balaoan District Hospital, Caba District Hospital, and LUMC also actively participated by cleaning hospital premises, identifying and eliminating stagnant water sources, and securing water containers to prevent mosquito breeding on February 28, 2025. The hospitals also conducted an Information Education Campaign to raise public awareness on dengue prevention.

This campaign is in line with the Provincial Government of La Union’s (PGLU) recent malaria border operations in several barangays in La Union. With the continued La Union PROBINSYAnihan of Local Government Units, district hospitals, and other partners, the PGLU led by Gov. Raphaelle Veronica Ortega-David, it is the province's hope to reduce the cases of mosquito-borne diseases in the province.
