As part of the broader effort to protect and conserve the province’s mangrove ecosystem,
the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), led by Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David, partnered with the Canadian Embassy and Project CURMA to plant 5,000 mangroves in key coastal areas across La Union.

Showcasing the spirit of La Union PROBINSYAnihan, the activity united various stakeholders, including the Provincial Government - Environment and Natural Resources Office, LGU - Aringay Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office and Municipal Agriculture Office, Jaime V. Ongpin Foundation, Inc., barangay officials, and residents. Volunteers from the Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Fire Protection, and Philippine National Police also participated.

With the collective efforts and continued support of partners, the PGLU is committed to advancing its mangrove initiatives. A total of 3,200 mangroves were successfully planted in Dulao, Aringay, with the remaining 1,800 mangroves scheduled for planting in Luna later this year.

Mangroves play a critical role in protecting coastlines, supporting biodiversity, and absorbing carbon, mitigating climate change and its global impact. This initiative, along with the PGLU’s #KalikasanNaman campaign, takes part in the province’s plight to promote sustainable environmental practices.
