The Naguilian District Hospital (NDH) was honored with the renowned Palbayani Award from the Department of Health (DOH) Ilocos Center for Health Development on December 9, 2024, at the Hotel Van Gogh in Candon City, Ilocos Sur.

The award recognizes NDH’s dedication to public health and its performance in the Philippines’ health surveillance system. It acknowledges the hospital’s extraordinary efforts to ensure that the Philippine Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (PIDSR) reports, notably the Event-based Disease Case Surveillance Report (EDCS), were submitted on time, in full, and with reliability.

The PIDSR system is essential for tracking infectious diseases and preventing their spread. The EDCS component, which focuses on reporting unusual disease patterns or emerging outbreaks, is critical in protecting the population from potential health threats.

Dr. Dan William Y. Dacanay II, Chief of Hospital, and Ms. Jane G. Gomez, Surveillance Nurse of the NDH, personally accepted the award. Ms. Gomez’s role as a Surveillance Nurse is crucial in monitoring, recording, and reporting disease trends, which contributes to the hospital’s effective response to potential health threats.

Through the award, NDH has shown the value of cooperation between local healthcare organizations and the DOH in disease surveillance and public health reporting. Furthermore, it celebrates the institution’s exceptional performance and the individual contributions of staff members to maintaining public health standards.

The recognition underscores the importance of collaboration between local healthcare institutions and the DOH in safeguarding public health. It also celebrates the individual contribution of NDH’s staff in upholding the highest standards of health surveillance and response.

The Provincial Government of La Union, headed by Gov. Raphaelle Veronica “Rafy” Ortega-David, extends its congratulations to NDH and hopes to encourage other healthcare facilities in the province to reflect their efforts in strengthening public health systems in La Union.
