Following its launch in April 2024, the Aling Tindera program returned for its second implementation on November 5, 2024, at the Speaker Pro-Tempore Francisco I. Ortega Convention Center (La Union Convention Center), City of San Fernando, La Union.

Aling Tindera, a flagship program of HOPE: Business for Good, was conducted in collaboration with Century Tuna’s Save Our Seas Project and the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) through the Provincial Government - Environment and Natural Resources Office.

It aims to divert plastic waste in the province by bringing the collected plastics to waste processors who turn them into useful products, promoting sustainability. Residents may exchange plastic wastes such as plastic bottles, tarpaulins, and styrofoams, among others, with the choice of either Century Tuna products or cash, incentivized by weight.

The program saw the support of 13 component Local Government Units that exchanged a total of 3,863.35 kilos of waste, 1,656.75 kg of which were PET bottles and 2,206.6 kg were mixed plastics. In return, the participants received 3,797 cans of Century Tuna which they can bring home to their families or sell for cash.

The Aling Tindera Program hopes to foster responsible waste management practices while improving the waste diversion rate in La Union, aligning with the province’s #KalikasanNaman Campaign and 10-year Solid Waste Management Plan. Through community engagement programs such as this, PGLU proves the strength of La Union PROBINSYAnihan in preserving the environment.
